Glacier Peak vs Sumner
Saturday started with a visit to Sunset Field in Sumner for an afternoon game. Glacier Peak was visiting team in this 4A match. The number thirteen seed was fresh off an upset win over number four seed, Chiawana.
There was some early confusion whether Glacier Peak inherited the home game by beating the higher seeded Riverhawks, but a recent ruling by the WIAA gives all contests in favor of the lowest seed for home game status. Sumner came into the bracket as a number 5 seed, so they played host.
Sumner worked on shutting down the run early, forcing Glacier Peak to pass. By halftime, Sumner was leading 14-3. Glacier Peak made a couple touchdowns in the second half, but it was too late, with the final score at 34-17, Sumner.
The Spartans take on the Puyallup Vikings at Carl Sparks Stadium at 1pm, Saturday November 29th, which decides who plays for the 4A Championship in Husky Stadium on December 6th.
Here are a few images from the game:
Ashton Pillard catches a 33 yard reception over Michael Darling of Glacier Peak.
Isaiah Owens runs up the sideline through the Sumner defensive back.
Jayden Martemianov grinds through the Grizzlie defense on his way to the end zone for Sumner.
Sophomore Glacier Peak QB, Oliver Setterberg, had 172 yards and one TD on the day.
Braylon Pope slips out of the hands of Mikhail Sholukh, on his way to a TD off a 25 yard reverse play.
Lance McGee finished the day with two TDs, 145 rushing yards and 48 receiving yards.
Sumner’s Shaun Griffith gets his hand on the ball, as he tried to bring down the Grizzlie ball carrier, Kai Brooks.
